In Tanzania, homeless boys living on the streets are seen by many residents as a menace, dangerous or trouble-makers. A new piece of malware is spreading, notable because it targets computers running Mac OS X, rather than Windows. Reports of the trojan "MAC Defender" (aka Mac Protector, aka Mac Security) first surfaced on May 2, but the malware has since morphed and proliferated. The basics: it spreads as search engine optimization (SEO) poisoning, using popular search terms for prominent search engine results. More: PC World, MacWorld, Ars Technica, Fortune, and a full description updated today at SecureMac.com. And if you are a Mac user, now is as good a time as any to consider installing *actual* anti-virus and malware scan apps. Intego's VirusBarrier, Sophos and MacScan are several with free demo versions. Apparently, "osama bin laden" is one of the popular search terms used to deploy. I just encountered a MAC Defender come-on page in Safari after clicking on a poisoned msnbc.com link via Twitter, hence the inspiration for this blog post. Pretty sure one of the remnant ads on msnbc.com served it. The serving IP is below, load it at your own risk, I paste it for informational purposes only.... Amazon's Cloud Player, which provides access to music stored on your Amazon Cloud Drive, is now working in Safari on iOS devices including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Amazon hasn't announced the support just yet, but if you navigate to your Amazon Cloud Player account from an iOS device — and ignore a few warnings about your device not being supported — you'll be able to access and play all of your tunes. As TechCrunch first spotted, your music will also pause if you receive a phone call or a push notification. Amazon has only recognized full support through computers and on Android smartphones, so there may still be a few bugs to be found. We're hoping there's a The Amazon Cloud Player has come to various iOS devices including the iPad and iPhone, however it is awkward to use and needs some work. This post assumes that you have already set up the Amazon cloud player on your computer and have uploaded some music to it. Once you have done that than you [...] Apple's iOS now supports Amazons Cloud Player, according to reports. Apple is reportedly prepping new cloud services of its very own. - Apples iOS now apparently supports Amazons cloud-based music service. Axeon fits a Land Rover Defender with an electric drivetrain for use in game parks. Apple has been negligent in releasing some of the source code from the BSD and LGPL (Lesser General Public License) components of WebKit, reports say. What would become WebKit is based partly on the KHTML and KJS in KDE Project's Konqueror browser, and Apple has promised to publish all modifications of related open-source material. The problem is that no source code has been published in connection with iOS 4.3, 4.3.1, 4.3.2 or 4.3.3, even though iOS' Safari web browser is based on WebKit.... _Seattle_ - Amazon.com has updated its new Cloud Player digital music locker service so that songs may be played back on Apple's iPhone and iPad via those devices' Safari Web browser. Billboard notes that Cloud Drive users on an iPhone or iPad won't be able to upload songs to Cloud Drive using those devices, as the application requires Flash, and also can't drag-and-drop songs to re-order playlists. read more Every year we tune in to the CanSecWest conference and watch the Pwn2Own challenge commence. This usually consists of browsers including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari getting hacked on the first day. One browser you will notice is missing from that list is Google Chrome, the reason being its sandbox security measures have made it [...] jfruhlinger writes "Ever since Apple forked the KHTML project to create WebKit, the rendering engine at the core of Safari, the company has been a good open source citizen, releasing the code back to the community after updates. But that suddenly stopped in March, with no code releases for the last two updates to the iOS version of the browser, for reasons unknown. This might remind you of Google's failure to release the Honeycomb source code. But at least Google announced that it was holding the code back, and Android is under a license that allows for a delay; the LGPL'd WebKit isn't." Update: 05/09 21:21 GMT by S : Reader Shin-LaC points out that Apple has now released the relevant source code. Read more of this story at Slashdot. When I stumbled this morning on the news that Amazon has quietly enabled its Cloud Player digital locker music service for iOS devices, I quickly fired up my iPad to test it out. Up until now, the Cloud Player service, which lets you upload your music to Amazon's servers to listen to it anywhere you have an Internet connection, has only worked on PCs and Android devices. The iOS compatibility is still fairly clunky. When you go to the page through an iOS device's Safari browser, you first get a warning that your browser is not supported. However, you can tap 'continue' to access it anyway, and all your songs do show up and are playable. Check that. You can play any songs or albums you can actually see on the initial screen. However, I can't find any way to actually scroll down through songs or albums beyond what shows up on the top of the page. There's apparently no "scroll" functionality for iOS yet. And hey, it isn't like Amazon has officially announced this yet. So right now, this is all gravy. No complaining allowed. But full iOS support is clearly coming, and I suspect ... TechCrunch: > Back in March, alongside the roll out of Amazon's new cloud-based music upload/player service, we noted one glaring problem: it didn't work on iOS devices. You might think this had to due with Flash or another technology that iOS wasn't compatible with, but it wasn't. It looked like something else was simply blocking it from working. Well, good news. That's no longer the case. > > If you visit Amazon's Cloud Player through the Safari web browser on an iOS device, you'll see that it does in fact now work… Read and comment. From techcrunch.com.
