Enter for your chance to win a Rio soundtrack and iPod shuffle! Anatol Lieven's blend of analysis, history and reporting provides a rare and compelling insight into a complex, troubled nation What is it with Pakistan? Currently, our attention is diverted by the Middle East, but there seems little doubt that the country will return to the centre of the geopolitical stage soon. Perhaps it will be another major bombing, a battle with militants, a military coup, another humanitarian disaster such as the floods of last year. Pakistan is one of those global hotspots where temperatures remain perennially elevated – and rarely for positive reasons. Yet, despite the interest in this 64-year-old country constructed in the ruins of the British imperial adventure in south Asia, Pakistan remains opaque, obscure and frequently misunderstood. In this truly excellent work, Anatol Lieven, former journalist and currently professor of international relations and terrorism studies at London's King's College, sets out to teach an often ignorant public, and their usually ignorant leaders, about this complex, crucial and troubled nation. The result is a highly readable and invigorating mix of academic analysis, history and ground reporting. It should become, if not a bestseller, certainly the text of reference. There has always been a dichotomy between the ... If Marvel's upcoming massively multiplayer online (MMO) game _Marvel Universe_ sounds like your cup of tea, the company's newly launch… Cartoon Network's VP original series Rob Swartz is leaving the cable network after a three-year stint to return to his alternative series roots, this time as a producer. Nick Weidenfeld and Tramm Wigzell will now report directly to me, each of them continuing to run their Comedy ... Indie darling Minecraft creator Marcus Persson will reveal the game's guts to game developers looking to create custom modifications for the build-your-own- adventure sandbox game. Minecraft is an important independent game because it is so wildly successful and it was released without a publisher. The game has sold more than 1 million copies and raked in some serious cash for Persson, who goes by his online handle "notch," and the rest of his team. It's always been about player- created content, but now the game is going even further than that to promote its development community. "Mod" communities — large groups of people who dabble in changing and adding new content to existing games — typically end up promoting an even more fervent and devoted player base for games. Some games have entire websites devoted to modifications, like BioWare's Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic series. One of the most wildly successful online games in history — Defense of the Ancients — even started off as a modification to real-time strategy game Warcraft. Like other games, Persson is requiring mod developers keep the game free and not sell their mods for the sandbox game. The modifications also have to only be available ... The Code of the West is alive and well in a handful of legislatures, even as Cowboy Poetry comes under fire A teenage girl goes out into the world for the first time – and has to battle for her life, in Columbia Pictures' adventure thriller "Hanna." [...] LOS ANGELES (AP) — Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg's talking birds have edged out Tyler Perry's sass-talking grandma at the weekend box office. Hathaway and Eisenberg's animated family adventure "Rio" took in $26.8 million to remain the No. 1 movie for the second-straight weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday. "Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family" debuted a close second with $25.8 million, another solid opening for writer-director Perry, who also stars as boisterous, opinionated grandma Madea. The weekend's other new wide release, Disney's nature documentary "African Cats," opened at No. 6 with $6.4 million. The latest from the maker of the hit documentary "Super Size Me" took in $135,139 in 18 theaters, averaging $7,508 a cinema. The upward trend likely will continue next weekend with "Fast Five," the latest movie in "The Fast and the Furious" action franchise, expected to have a huge opening, said Hollywood.com analyst Paul Dergarabedian. Adapted from the best- selling novel, "Water for Elephants" features Witherspoon as the star of a Depression-era circus, with Pattinson co-starring as a veterinarian who falls for her despite her jealous, tyrannical husband. While Perry's latest "Madea" flick was unable to knock "Rio" off its perch, the ... Producer Michael Karzis takes you on a high-stakes adventure: shooting a "60 Minutes" story in one of the holiest places on Earth; Then, travel back in time to 1973 for a Mike Wallace report on a new problem facing America: wives walking out on their families; Also, in 1999, Andy Rooney went on a hunt through history, searching out the many images of Jesus Christ. Getting in a little mother-daughter bonding time, Ashley Tisdale was spotted out shopping with her mom in Beverly Hills Wednesday (April 20). The "Hellcats" actress looked a bit preoccupied as she chatted away incessantly on her mobile phone, sporting a grey fedora, black jacket, and dark wash jeans. Ashley's new movie "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" came out on DVD this week, and she told press it was fun reconnecting with her "High School Musical" days. "Coming back into it for a fourth time, she is a character I am so lucky to have. I owe it to them that I'm here. So I felt like coming back for this movie and making sure [Sharpay] had a great ending, there was not even a question about it. I was so into it." People with an interest in escalating tensions and sowing conflict within Middle Eastern countries always say "There is no time!" for diplomacy or negotiation.... and that "If lives are to be saved then we have to take military action..." In mid-March, I was stunned to see how rapidly those arguments took hold among "western" political elites, within the space of just a few days, with regard to Libya. So I looked around to see where they might be deployed by those same people again and, in the interest of trying to head off yet another horrendous western military adventure (conducted, as in Libya, under the guise of an "urgent humanitarian intervention") I started thinking about what all of us in the global antiwar movement could do to draw up constructive and timely proposals for determinedly _non-violent_ policies that could help to de- escalate the tensions in troubled countries and then move speedily to defusing the and resolving the very real political problems that have been the cause of these conflicts. On March 28, I published this modest blog post, titled **"What can be done in Syria (and could have been done in Libya)"**. Then I thought about ... A blend of adventure, danger and romance, the __three-month __trip inspired the couple to write 'Cape Dory,' an album of sunny, retro-influenced indie-pop tracks that allowed them to relive their time on the ocean. Spinner spoke with Riley about what inspired the trip, the several near-sinkings of their boat and how they ended up with their "WASPy" name._ **You and Alaina started the band after taking a long sailing trip in the Atlantic. How did that come about?** It was my idea. A while back when I was like 12 years old, my parents took me out on my first sailing trip. I grew up in Arizona so it was kind of a big deal. We rented a boat in San Diego and that was all it took. From that day forward, I created this fantastical dream that I would save up money and buy my own small boat and ...
