Soul legend Marvin Gaye's groundbreaking What's Going On album is set for a 40th anniversary celebration featuring re-releases, rare cuts and celebrity tributes. The classic hit stores on 21 May, 1971 and quickly became one of the most important... Convinced that May 21 will mark the world's end, believers continue to warn of God's ensuing wrath. But they aren't alone: End times prophecies have existed for centuries, and today, they're on the rise, examining whether world events — from earthquakes to economic globalization — are signs of the coming Apocalypse. The U.S. Energy Department's weekly inventory release showed a continued build-up in crude stockpile, which are now at their highest level in two years. EREZ CROSSING, Israel, May 12 (UPI) -- Four Israeli men posted an Internet video calling on Israelis to enter Hamas territory if captive soldier Gilad Shalit hasn't been freed by June 21. Institution stands out after Human Rights watch report saying many such schools are enslaving students to beg for money Wiley Wiggins sends word of a Kickstarter campaign for Thunderbeam a "psychedelic, open-ended adventure game for the iPad, with the sort of deeper gameplay we feel the device is worthy of," described as "an homage to the sci- fi shows we loved as kids, but full of the schadenfreude and dark humor our now shriveled, black hearts require in order to continue pumping." Wiley and pals are trying to raise $20K to make the game a reality. As I type this, they're about 21% of the way toward their goal, with 27 days to go. More: While we love the adventure games of the past, they were often primitive, and we've learned a lot about the weaknesses in their play mechanics. Cinematic games could be very effective but often sacrificed player freedom in exchange for narrative thrust, and point-and click games often turned into tedious easter egg hunts where the player dutifully clicked on every slightly out-of- place pixel in the hope that there was some hidden object that would allow him to progress. We've come up with a sort of codified formula of fun, that we are anxious to put into practice. It ... Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart may have been arrested yesterday, but it hasn't taken away from the festive mood he's been in lately. On May 21, Stewart is set to marry 29-year-old Porsha Williams, the first granddaughter of Civil The Christian radio network Family Radio warns that the end will come on May 21. Yet there is still some doubt, considering the hype over the 2012 apocalypse and that Family Radio president Harold Camping has foretold the end before. Contributor: Robert Dougherty Published: May 12, 2011 Plan accordingly. I will blog it. (Thanks to Roger Eichorn for the pointer.) UPDATE: John Oberdiek (Rutgers) points out that one can make provision for pets too. Market research firm NPD Group this week revealed the findings of its recent report entitled, Apple iPad Owner Study II. Among the interesting findings contained within NPD's research is the revelation that the iPad isn't responsible for the current decline in the traditional consumer PC market — at least, not according to NPD and its respondents. Research firm IDC estimates that the PC market dipped by over 10% in the U.S. last quarter, and 3.2% globally. In reporting its estimates, IDC said that these declines were due to factors other than the rising popularity of the iPad and other "media tablets." NPD Group's new report jibes with that sentiment, as the firm claims that only 14% of early iPad adopters decided DRITA D'AVANZO, of VH1's "Mob Wives," hosts the South Philly Summer Kick-Off party at Galdo's (20th & Moyamensing) May 21. Red … Continue reading -> If after last year's lackluster lineup Cannes was wondering "will you still love me when I'm 64," the answer was a definitive yes judging by response to the perfectly chosen opener Wednesday night for the festival's 64th year: Woody Allen's love letter to all things Parisian, _Midnight In Paris._ Press (who saw the film earlier in the day) as well as the tony opening-night crowd were calling this time-travelling Allen comedy, his first full feature shot entirely in France, one of his best in years. Sony Pictures Classics releases the film in America in just eight days, with SPC co-president Michael Barker calling the response inside the Palais and the ovation at the end of the film "fabulous." What did you expect him to say? But Cannes opinion makers are backing him up. Also, as I mentioned yesterday, Barker has another film coming up in the competition (_Paris_ was not competing for prizes) on May 19 when Pedro Almodovar's first horror film, _The Skin I Live In,_ premieres. Barker just saw the film himself for the first time yesterday and told me "It's off the charts, fantastic." If true, that could put two-time Oscar winner Almodovar ... It's happened again. Bernard Hopkins is using Donovan McNabb as a punching bag. Hopkins questioned McNabb's toughness Tuesday in racially-tinged comments preceding his May 21 title fight . "Forget this," Hopkins said (via philly.com), pointing to his own skin. "He's got a suntan. That's all." That's why, according to Hopkins, McNabb felt betrayed when he was traded by the Philadelphia Eagles to the Washington Redskins on Easter 2010. Read full article >> Various religious group are constantly predicting the end of the world. However, predictions for a few days over the next couple of years have gotten more press than most. Saturday, May 21, 2011 is the nearest predicted date, and enough people have been convinced of it that some of them are paying for things like billboard space announcing it in the hopes of saving a few more souls before the end. But why May 21? This date was computed by Harold Camping, who has a broadcasting network - Family Radio - through which he has spread the word. Like many Christians trying to compute the End of Days, he attempts to calculate the exact days of various Biblical events (May 21 is the 7000th anniversary of Noah's Flood, according to Camping) mixed in with some pretty hefty numerology and numerical symbolism.
