The car is racing far too fast toward the tail end of a traffic jam - a crash is inevitable. The inflated airbag can protect the car's occupants. But if the person in the passenger seat is leaning too far forward, perhaps looking for something in a bag in the foot space, the force of the airbag can cause injury. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC in Würzburg have now developed sensors that can help prevent such scenarios... While incidents of melanoma continue to increase despite the use of sunscreen and skin screenings, a topical compound called ISC-4 may prevent melanoma lesion formation, according to Penn State College of Medicine researchers. "The steady increase in melanoma incidence suggests that additional preventive approaches are needed to complement these existing strategies," said Gavin Robertson, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology, pathology, dermatology and surgery, and director of Penn State Hershey Melanoma Center... While incidents of melanoma continue to increase despite the use of sunscreen and skin screenings, a topical compound called ISC-4 may prevent melanoma lesion formation, according to researchers. wiredmikey writes "The Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) and US-CERT have issued a high severity vulnerability warning, discovered by Neustar, which affects BIND, the most widely used DNS software on the Internet. Successful exploitation could enable attacker to cause Bind servers to stop processing all requests. According to the disclosure, 'When an authoritative server processes a successful IXFR transfer or a dynamic update, there is a small window of time during which the IXFR/update coupled with a query may cause a deadlock to occur. This deadlock will cause the server to stop processing all requests. A high query rate and/or a high update rate will increase the probability of this condition.'" For IT security professionals, that means staying on top of their organizations needs and keeping abreast of current threats and whats on the horizon. Its a heady task, and one that has created a critical skills gap in IT, a survey of 10,000 security professionals found. According to the survey by Frost & Sullivan for the non-profit (ISC)2, dealing with threats coming from mobile devices, cloud computing, social networking and unsecure applications, and addressing the security concerns of customers has led to IS professionals being stretched thin. The survey was released at the RSA Conference 2011. "In the modern organization, end-users are dictating IT priorities by bringing technology to the enterprise rather than the other way around," Robert Ayoub, global program director of network security for Frost & Sullivan, said in a statement. "Pressure to secure too much and the resulting skills gap are creating risk for organizations worldwide." Hiring talented security pros and investing in professional development can alleviate some of those risks, he said. So what are the challenges facing enterprises, and what can security pros do to meet the ... While smoking and alcohol use remained relatively stable over a 13-year study period, street drug use among stroke patients rose more than nine-fold, according to new research from the University of Cincinnati (UC). The findings were presented Wednesday, Feb. 9, in Los Angeles at International Stroke Conference (ISC) 2011, the annual meeting of the American Stroke Association, by Felipe De los Rios, MD, of the UC Department of Neurology and the UC Neuroscience Institute. De los Rios is a fourth-year resident in the neurology department...
