After making some major scheduling moves last year with shifting _American Idol_ to Wednesdays and Thursdays and launching a _Glee_-anchored comedy block on Tuesdays, the network is expected to bet on stability this year, especially after both gambles this season largely paid off. _Idol_ is expected to keep its Wednesday-Thursday airing pattern, which would be mirrored in the fall by _X Factor_, whose 90-minute Wednesday show will probably be used to launch a new comedy the way _American Idol_ has done it. Fox Broadcasting, at its "upfront" presentation on Monday, will again be pitching the ambitious "Terra Nova" sci-fi series, which was delayed last year. _Terra Nova_ executive producer/showrunner Rene Echevarria has signed an overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV, the studio behind the upcoming pre- historic drama series, which recently scored high marks in network testings of the pilot. Under the two-year, seven-figure pact, he will continue to run _Terra Nova_, which is set to begin production on the remaining episodes of its 13-episode order on June 1 in Australia. The deal also includes potential development but, at least for the time being, he is expected to focus on _Terra Nova_ full-time. With resume that features both sci fi and character- driven shows, 20th TV chairman Gary Newman called Echevarria "probably the perfect person to assume leadership of _Terra Nova",_ which he described as a compelling family drama with action and special effects. "This is the most ambitious special effect show ever done in television, which shoots on the other end of the world, so it requires somebody with the maturity, leadership and strength that Rene possesses," Newman said. _Terra Nova_, originally slated for midseason, was eventually pushed to next fall, with plans for a May preview scrapped to finish special effects and address some issues in the 2-hour ... In our continuing run-up to the announcements of the new fall schedules at next week's upfronts, we're analyzing a different network each day to point out their strengths and weaknesses, their buzziest pilots, and their likely moves. We predict their sales pitch and give our armchair suggestions that they ignore at their own ratings risk. The pregnancy of _Bones_ star Emily Deschanel is expected to sideline her for as many as 6-7 episodes from _Bones_' upcoming seventh season. Fox, producing studio 20th TV and _Bones_ creator Hart Hanson are discussing the use of _Finder_ episodes as a filler during Deschanel's maternity leave. The two names I've head mentioned are those of _The Finder_ star Geoff Stults and his sidekick Michael Clarke Duncan, while the future of the third_ Finder character_, played by Saffron Burrows, which has drawn polarizing reaction, is unclear. Sources stress that this is one of several scenarios in contention for Deschanel's hiatus. _The Finder_ was introduced in an episode of _Bones _last month, which got traction with the veteran series'__ fans. However, Fox already has_ Terra Nova_ and_ X Factor _on tap for fall and _Touch _penciled in for midseason, so the network will probably pick up as few ... _Reaper_ creators/executive producers Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have signed a two-year overall deal with CBS TV Studios. Under the seven-figure deal, which begins June 1, the two will serve as full-time consulting producers on the studio's CBS cop drama _Hawaii Five-0_, which is all but picked up for next season. Additionally, they will develop new projects for the studio. This marks a return to the crime procedural genre for Fazekas and Butters who spent five seasons on NBC's _Law & Order: SVU_, rising to co- executive producers and earning two WGA Award nominations. Fazekas and Butters are coming off a two-year overall deal at 20th TV where they created and exec produced last year's ABC pilot _Cutthroat _and consulted on _Dollhouse, Chaos _and _Terra Nova_. Before that, the duo was based at ABC Studios where they created and exec produced _Reaper_ and served as showrunners on the CW dramedy for its two-season run. The CW, one of the two primary networks CBS Studios supplies, along with CBS, is now run by Mark Pedowitz who, as president of ABC Studios developed _Reaper_ with Fazekas and Butters and has a great relationship with them. ICM-repped Fazekas ... A month after Mike Jelline left ICM, where he was head of TV Talent, to join UTA as a talent agent, the dust has settled on which of his clients will join him at the new agency. The bulk of them did, with the total currently at 13. The list includes _Desperate Housewives_ co-star Vanessa Williams; Jason O'Mara, star of the Spielberg/Chernin-produced Fox fall series _Terra Nova;__ _Morena Baccarin, star of ABC's _V_; Jeremy Sisto, star of the hot ABC comedy pilot _Suburgatory_; Skeet Ulrich, most recently of _Law and Order: LA_; Natalie Zea, co-star of FX's _Justified_; Paula Malcomson, who was just cast opposite Jennifer Lawrence in _Hunger Games_; Philip Winchester, star of the Cinemax action series _Strike Back_; Steven R. McQueen (_Vampire Diaries)_; Lennie James (HBO's _Hung,_ _Colombiana)_; Megan Dodds, female lead opposite Ethan Hawke in the Fox's pilot _Exit Strategy_; Chyler Leigh, who co-stars on _Grey's Anatomy_; and J. August Richards (TNT's _Raising the Bar)._ May is upon us, and with that the final stage of the primetime pilot panic leading into the broadcast networks' May 16-19 upfront presentations in New York. Producers are currently rushing to finish the cuts or re-cuts of their pilots for the networks' official screenings. CBS on Friday became the first network to begin viewing its pilots, with the others slated to follow suit this coming week. In compiling this hot list, we surveyed a wide range of TV industry insiders, and I feel good about the sourcing on it. Still, as a former rocket scientist, I want to point out that it is not a scientific document as buzz is fickle. For instance, last year, CBS' _Blue Blood_ flew completely under the radar until 24 hours before CBS' upfront presentation. Now it's looking good for a second-season renewal. ** ****DRAMA** Last season, with no _X Factor_ on the fall schedule, Fox picked up only 2 new dramas, _Lone Star_ and _The Chicago Code_, in addition to _Terra Nova_, which was targeted for midseason. This year, the network has _Terra Nova_ for fall after the series' premiere was pushed. With the Tim Kring/Kiefer ... The drama is set in prehistoric era when dinosaurs still exist as the characters are transported back 85 millions years.
