Labour alleges failure to act against pornographic websites where material can easily be viewed by children Ministers have been accused of failing to crack down on pornographic websites that can easily be viewed by children. The claim came just days after the children's minister, Sarah Teather, unveiled the Bailey review into the sexualisation of children, which recommended that age ratings be introduced for raunchy pop videos and "vanity covers" be compulsory for so-called lads' mags such as _Nuts_ and _Zoo_. It emerged this weekend that the government has not acted on a separate recommendation from the media regulator, Ofcom, which said last year that the law should be changed so that sexually explicit content on video-on-demand websites could not be seen by children. The government asked Ofcom last year to examine whether the law should be changed to protect children from pornographic material that was easily available on some adult sites, including Playboy.tv, which allowed paying members to download a wide range of pornographic material. Many of them also offer sexually explicit "try before you buy" content that can be easily viewed without a credit card or account number. Ofcom recommended in a report passed to the Department ... Check out what's new below! * Better push notifications - With the new "Notification Center," you'll see your alerts and notifications in the top nav bar (just like Android). And you can see all current notifications with a swipe of your finger down (and without annoying popups). * Newsstand - Just like iBooks, you can download magazines and newspapers via Newsstand. * Twitter integration - Apple has not only added a single sign-on for Twitter, making it easier to sign in, but it's also integrated the microblogging service into many apps, so you can tweet what you're doing from the camera, stories you find in Safari, videos from YouTube, or Map locations. Twitter @replies or notifications will also show up in the new notification center at the top of the ... Android, of course, is Google's wildly popular alternative to Apple's iOS (the operating system found on iPhones and iPads). Android is free and open – it costs nothing to copy, it can be legally modified and those modifications can be legally distributed. Android products come in varying degrees of lockdown; flagship devices such as the Samsung Nexus S are easy to set up to run competing, unofficial flavours of Android (such as CyanogenMod, which adds lots of useful features and controls to your phone that are missing from the stock Android version). Other phones use various kinds of hardware and software locks that try to get in the way of installing your own OS, and while Google doesn't prohibit this behaviour from its vendors, it also doesn't encourage it – until now.
