Vinicius Cantuária, right, performing with Bill Frisell at the Highline Ballroom. #PalinHistory 1 For those who have been trapped under something heavy, or have been transfixed by Anthony Weiner's weiner, you may have missed an attempt by Palinistas to revise history to comport with Sarah Palin's stupid recounting of Paul Revere's midnight ride: The argument over whether Sarah Palin was misinformed about the historical facts of Paul [...] “We want tacos,” is a chant you can regularly hear at Coors Field. Taco Bell has a promotion that if the Rockies score 7 or more runs in a game, fans can get 3 tacos for a buck. It is safe to say that Denver area Taco Bells are not in danger of going out of business because of this promotion. The Colorado team that many predicted would win the NL West is nearly a half a dozen games back in their division and the main culprit is a lack of offense. Provided you've got a wallet padded enough to take the blow, the Canon Legria HF G10 is an excellent high-end camcorder with a wealth of features. The Doro EasyPhone 410 ticks the right boxes for users who want an easy-to-use phone with no bells and whistles, even if it is a tad expensive. At some point all one can do is laugh at both Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann when either of them suggest that they might run for president. I mean after all, if you legitimately want to be this nation's chief executive, you might first want to exhibit a modicum of understanding of the basics of American history. Ironically, for all of the advice that these two shinning lights regularly offer the American people, and their allusions to the founding fathers, their grasp of American history leaves much to be desired. Quoting Jonathan Martin and Kendra Marr of Politico: "Michele Bachmann's suggestion that the Revolutionary War began in Concord, N.H., rather than Lexington and Concord, Mass., marks the third time in recent months that the potential GOP presidential hopeful has committed a puzzling gaffe about history and current affairs. Addressing a crowd of Republicans at a rally in Manchester, New Hampshire Bachmann stated that, "You're the state where the shot was heard around the world at Lexington and Concord." Oddly enough, Bachmann made a similar statement just days before the Manchester gaffe, at another fundraiser: "It's your state that fired the shot that was heard around the ... "Paul Revere's Ride," by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Sarah Palin Listen my children and you shall hear Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere, He who warned and, uh, the arms, And bells were rung out as alarms To tell the British we were there, And had our guns, and to beware. (John) The latest _contretemps_ between Sarah Palin and the Left arose out of an encounter at Boston's Old North Church in which Palin explicated Paul Revere's ride. USA Today's account was relatively charitable: > Sarah Palin apparently flubbed details of Paul Revere's famous midnight ride when she visited Boston yesterday. > > The former Alaska governor, who may or may not be running for the GOP presidential nomination, thought Revere was warning the British army during the Revolutionary War. Left-wing outlets were delirious with glee: Sarah Palin! What an idiot! She thought Paul Revere rode to warn the British! Let's just pause on that for a moment. Do these people seriously believe that Palin thought Revere was a British agent? That he risked his life to warn English troops--who were mostly in Boston, so why would he need to ride anywhere to warn them?--that John Hancock and Sam Adams were...asleep in their beds? That his capture by British soldiers, not to mention his subsequent enshrinement as a hero of the revolution, was a mistake, since he was only trying to be helpful to the English? Really? _Really?_ This reminds me of the time when a liberal told a joke ... Supporters of the former governor try to amend history in light of her recent comments in New Hampshire Right wingers across America are now totally convinced that Paul Revere rode through Boston ringin' bells and shootin' off guns to warn the British not to take away American firearms (it's already become an impenetrable article of faith on the right), so this won't make any difference to them. But historians agree: Palin's account was just goofy. > "He didn't warn the British," said James Giblin, author of "The Many Rides of Paul Revere." "That's her most obvious blooper." > > During her "One Nation Tour" last week, the former Alaska governor uttered a now-infamous recounting of the Revolutionary War hero's midnight ride, telling reporters that Revere "warned, uh, the ... the British that they weren't going to be taking away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells." She defended her explanation on "Fox News Sunday," saying "Part of his ride was to warn the British that we're already there -- that, 'Hey, you're not going to succeed. '" > > Experts agree that warning the British -- Revere was an American patriot, remember, he was against the folks across the pond -- was not crucial to the midnight ride. > > "Revere's assignment that night was to go to ... The other people who know this: Every American child. Sarah Palin said that Paul Revere warned the British during his midnight ride in 1775. Historians beg to differ. "He didn't warn the British," said James Giblin, author of "The Many Rides of Paul Revere." "That's her most obvious blooper." During her "One Nation Tour" last [...] _"We saw where Paul Revere hung out as a teenager, which was something new to learn. **He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't going to be taking away our arms,** uh, by ringing those bells and making sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed."_ — Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, June 2  _"You know what? I didn't mess up about Paul Revere. Here is what Paul Revere did. He warned the Americans that the British were coming, the British were coming, and they were going to try to take our arms and we got to make sure that we were protecting ourselves and shoring up all of our ammunitions and our firearms so that they couldn't take it. But remember that the British had already been there, many soldiers for seven years in that area. And part of Paul Revere's ride — and it wasn't just one ride — he was a courier, he was a messenger. Part of his ride was to ... Jeffrey Goldberg unearths the first draft of Longfellow's famous poem: Paul Revere's Ride. > LISTEN, my children, and you shall hear Of the early evening ride of Paul Revere, On the twentieth, or twenty-first, of May, or possibly June, in Seventy-six, or maybe Seventy-seven; Hardly a man is now alive Who refudiates that famous day and year. He said to his friend, while ringing those bells, 'We must see the French a-coming By land or sea or some other way, maybe by air, from the town to-night, And tell our British friends, and our British enemies, And warn them of bears, the big majestic polar bears, that lurk amid the French a-strumming Their mandolins, and other French instruments, that make a patriot so squirmish. Shoot a flair up at Lexington and Concord, Those fabled towns of New Hampshire and Vermont Where General Lee made his valiant stands;. And no one will take that flair gun away from me, Not from my cold, dead hands. Of that church, you know the one, with the name, whatever it's called, up in the tower as a signal light,-- One, if by land, and two, if by air; And I on the opposite shore will be, in a ... This broad here! Despite what the whole world knows of U.S. History, Sarah Palin says she wasn't wrong when she rewrote the story of Paul Revere's ride last week. > "You realize that you messed up about Paul Revere, don't you?" Tinseltown is a great place to fall in love, and Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald have become the latest betrothed celebrity couple. The "Twilight" babe and her "American Idol" hunk have announced that they're engaged to be married, and they couldn't be happier. Last month, Nikki responded to critics of their relationship who claimed they were moving way too fast. "I love him and I don't care. I've never met anyone like him. I've never met anyone who has such a good solid heart and comes from such a good solid family and is just a genuine person. We have the exact same sense of humor. I've never laughed so much with anyone as I do with him." Last week's press release from the World Health Organisation (WHO) set alarm bells ringing and had many mobile phone users reaching for their hands-free headsets, but is there really cause for concern? A 40 per cent increase in the risk of cancer for phone owners is a terrifying prospect, especially in a country like Australia where phone subscriptions outnumber our population. But is this really what the WHO is suggesting? The alarm bells are ringing in the West Lothian bowling camp after the pre- campaign favourites to top the East section of the Hamilton Trophy suffered a second unexpected blow I happened to catch Fox News Sunday about the time Chris Wallace was asking Sarah Palin what the devil she was talking about when she said last week that Paul Revere warned the British that they weren t going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as he s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free. This is Eve's British race car driver boo Maximillion Cooper. Back in October, Eve professed her love for Maximillian via Twitter, in an attempt to kill rumors about her and another Brit.
