'I'm not feeling great," Maurice Sendak is saying. "I've been rather sick, to tell you the truth. I can make believe I'm well." A mural that Maurice Sendak spent months painting in a New York apartment in 1961 has been restored and put on display at the Rosenbach Museum and Library in Philadelphia. A 4-foot-by-13-foot mural painted by Maurice Sendak (and the wall it was painted on) has been removed and is being restored to be put on display at a museum in Philadelphia. NEW YORK (AP) -- There will be some new fall reading for the kids: a new Maurice Sendak book.... HarperCollins says new Maurice Sendak book, 'Bumble-Ardy,' coming in September WSJ's Katherine Rosman visits the News Hub to exclusively report author Maurice Sendak following up 'Where the Wild Things Are' with 'Bumble-Ardy', a children's story about a pig who has an interesting birthday party. PHILADELPHIA -- Long before award-winning illustrator and writer Maurice Sendak's world of wild things charmed millions of young readers and changed the notion of what children's literature could look like, some of his now- classic characters frolicked on a wall overlooking New York's Central Park for an audience of two. From an interactive show exploring Leonardo da Vinci's fecund imagination to an exhibition highlighting Maurice Sendak's use of line and texture in his children's-book illustrations, and another taking the measure of spies, traitors, and saboteurs in American history, the region's museums will offer an eclectic potpourri of exhibitions that should find wide appeal among children and adults. Maurice Sendak painted this mural in the New York apartment of his friends the Chertoffs. The family donated the mural (and plaster) to the Rosenbach Museum and Library in Philadelphia; through April, the public can watch repairs in progress. The only mural Maurice Sendak is known to have ever painted has been donated by the one-time children for whom it was made, and is being restored for display. We talk to the artist and the donors, 50 years after the piece's creation.
