Actor Lou Perryman Killed in Austin Texas

A member of Austin's film community is found murdered in his home. The body of Louis Perryman was discovered Thursday. Police say the man, accused of the murder, drove to the Travis County Courthouse, surrendered and confessed. Police were already looking for the man, not for the murder, but because of an earlier incident on Wednesday at his mother's house. With bandages on his hands, and a fractured skull, Carl Drake is trying to make sense of the past 48 hours. Wednesday afternoon, while in his Glen Meadow Dr house Drake says he was attacked. According to a police warrant, the man responsible for the attack used hedge clippers, and identified as Seth Tatum. Investigators say Tatum is Drakes step-son. Seth Tatum recently moved into the Glen Meadow Dr home after serving time in state prison for aggravated robbery. Joan Tatum told investigators her son is bi-polar, off his meds and drinking. That information had officers launching an immediate search. "I attempted to find any possible residence and where any hang out t anywhere he possible may be so we could apprehend him," said Austin Police department Cpl. Shawn Lapuszynski. Seth Tatum, police say headed south, on foot, and ended up nearly 3 miles away at a house on Darvone Cir. Witnesses there say he struck up a conversation with the homeowner and went inside. A few minutes later, from across the street, Henry Barta, says he spotted his neighbor's car pull away. I seen the car go out Wednesday about 1:00, I dont pay attention to who is driving," said Barta. Thursday morning, the car pulled into a parking space at the Travis County Court House. Investigators say Tatum got out, approached several officers and, according to Austin Police Sgt. Joseph Chacon, Tatum made a bizarre statement. "By the way, that's a stolen car and Im pretty sure I killed the owner of that car, Sgt. Chacon said during a new conference at APD Headquarters. Officers traced the car tags to 1105-B Darvone Cir. When police entered the house, they say they found everything Tatum told them they'd find. 67 year old Louis Perryman was dead. Investigators say his body was covered with multiple slash marks. The area was quickly sealed off. "It looked like hell, didn't know what was going on," said Henry Barta. Another neighbor, Virginia Faubion says Perryman was a good and talented friend. "Very colorful and he had just a marvelous voice. I often wondered why he wasn't a bigger star," said Faubion. Lou Perryman is a noted character actor. According to his IMDB bio, the 68-year-old Perryman had been in a handful of movies dating back to 1961. Mostly small roles, but a few parts in block-busters like Poltergeist, The Blues Brothers, as well as cult favorites like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Investigators say his encounter with Tatum was purely random. "Mr. Perryman just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time," said Sgt. Chacon. As friends mourn the loss of Lou Perryman, Seth Tatum's mother says she tried to get her son some help, most recently on Tuesday, at a local counseling center. They returned home because they could not afford the treatment. A day later, instead of talking to doctors they were meeting with police.
