Actor best known as John Travolta's sidekick Kenickie in Grease, and Bobby Wheeler in the US sitcom Taxi In the late 1970s and early 80s, Taxi was one of the best American television sitcoms. It won 18 Emmy awards and its stars, among them Jeff Conaway, who has died aged 60, became household names. Conaway played the narcissistic, "resting" actor Bobby Wheeler, one of the characters working for the Sunshine cab company, all hoping for better jobs to turn up. In a way, the role mirrored Conaway's own struggle for greater recognition as an actor, which was not helped by his having been addicted to alcohol, cocaine and analgesics since he was a teenager. In Taxi, the handsome Conaway, sporting the feathered hairstyle popular in the 1970s, had to compete with more fascinating characters in the avuncular Alex Rieger (Judd Hirsch), obnoxious Louie De Palma (Danny DeVito), sexy divorcee Elaine Nardo (Marilu Henner), unvictorious boxer Tony Banta (Tony Danza), and English-impaired immigrant Latka Gravas (Andy Kaufman). Most of the cast of the popular show went on to bigger things, while Conaway's one moment of glory in the cinema was already in his past. He first made an ... **By Marcia Heroux Pounds, Sun Sentinel** Friday, May 27, 2011 FORT LAUDERDALE -- Teenagers and young adults looking for summer jobs may find a few more opportunities than in past years, but the hunt still is challenging, labor experts say. • "I totally thought it was going to be tough to find a job," said Melanie Miller, 17, of Hollywood, who recently found work at children's clothing store P.S. Here's why you no longer see so many of those high-testosterone Army National Guard recruitment ads in movie theaters before the trailers: It's due to budget cuts in Washington -- and the National Guard doesn't need to hunt for applicants in this anemic economy. "A lot of people go into the military because they can't find jobs in the private sector," National CineMedia CEO Kurt Hall told Wall Street analysts Thursday to help explain why 1Q earnings were so disappointing at the No. 1 seller of movie theater ads. The company reported a net loss of $1 million, down from a $1.2 million profit in the same period last year, on revenues of $59.1 million, down 12.8%. Hall warned that the business is in for more turbulence, even though movie theater owners expect to fill seats this summer and TV networks predict robust ad sales in their upfront market. Japanese auto and consumer electronics companies are among the biggest advertisers in theaters, and they don't know whether they'll have enough parts to meet their production goals following the country's earthquake and tsunami. "They don't want to spend a lot of money (on movie theater ads) if their products aren't going to be in the stores or dealerships," ... _By Phil Rogers_ Talking baseball while celebrating the Bulls' ascent to No. 1 in the Eastern Conference: **1. Joe Mauer **and **Justin Morneau** are likely to both be in the Twins lineup today, something that hasn't happened since July 7. Mauer, who has been recovering from surgery on his left knee, will only serve as the designated hitter, meaning that Morneau must play at first base as he continues his comeback from concussion syndrome. There are, obviously, huge implications for the White Sox, who have passed Detroit to be viewed as co-favorites alongside the Twins in the AL Central. The loss of closer** Joe Nathan **was viewed as a huge blow last year, but wouldn't stop the Twins from defending their division title. This year's team has gone 9-8 despite missing half its regulars. Cuddyer says the Twins will ... Have you ever considered taking a break in your career to travel? If you're reading this blog, you're probably the type of person who has. In 2008/2009, my wife and I acted on a long-time fantasy and took a one-year trip around the world trip with our two young boys--an experience we'll never forget or regret. Since returning to the U.S., I've been inspired to encourage others to travel more. It doesn't have to be for a whole year; taking six months, a summer, a week, or even a long weekend is fine, as long as you get out there and go. After New Yorker Alex Rein lost his job as a corporate lawyer in 2009, he decided to trade long hours reading contracts at his desk for... slushies. But not the neon, artificially flavored, convenience-store concoctions--he wanted to sell frozen treats that combined real pureed fruit with grown-up flavors like ginger and green tea. So using his own savings, plus money from friends and family, Rein, now 31, launched Kelvin Natural Slush, a food truck that hit the streets of New York City in the summer of 2010. It has since won a Vendy Award for best dessert and was named one of the top 20 food trucks in America by QSR magazine. Here are the most important things he's learned about running a seasonal business. 1. Anticipate obstacles. Rein planned to open the Kelvin truck for business much earlier than the actual July 2010 launch date. Getting the vehicle operational, making sure his staff had the proper food service licenses, and staking out a good location without infuriating the Mr. Softee trucks that already occupied the nearby streets all took longer than expected. "It was stressful," says Rein. "It took close to a year--longer than ... Summer Jobs in Simsbury, Conn., Affected MLK as a Teenager
