Andrew Lansley to be told 'major changes' are needed to NHS reform bill to give more power to hospital doctors Hospital doctors are seeking major changes to the government's planned NHS shakeup to ensure they are not sidelined in favour of GPs. The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) wants a specialist from a local hospital to be guaranteed a seat on the board of each of the consortiums of doctors which, under the health and social care bill, are due to become responsible for commissioning patients' care across England from 2013. Under current plans they would be known as "GP commissioning consortiums" and have control of how £60bn a year of NHS funds are spent on treatments. But the college has said the groups should involve more than just family doctors – as called for by the health secretary, Andrew Lansley – and that the process should be called "clinically led commissioning" to reflect that. Putting a hospital doctor on each board would help to ensure more integrated care for patients, argues the college in its submission to the government's NHS "listening exercise". The college's demand is backed by the British Medical Association and other key groups, ... U.S. representatives Ed Markey and Joe Barton will ask the College Board, owner of the SAT college entrance exam, for details on how it collects and stores data from students as the government seeks to bolster teen privacy laws. Earlier this year, Access Copyright won a Copyright Board decision that granted a new interim tariff for post-secondary education institutions. This is the first of three posts that examine the aftermath of that decision, the current economics behind Access Copyright, and the challenges the copyright collective faces over the long haul. The interim licence, which effectively sought to maintain the status quo as the copyright collective and educational institutions sort through the Access Copyright demand for a massive increase in its current tariff structure, provided the collective with a potential continued revenue stream and delayed what appeared to be a near-universal decision among Canadian universities to drop the Access Copyright licence altogether. While some were surprised that the educational institutions did not seek judicial review of the Copyright Board decision, I suspect that many institutions came around to the view that the interim tariff was helpful in the short-term. Many institutions were facing faculty not ready to shift away from the Access Copyright licence in January 2011. The interim tariff bought them time to complete the transition. That transition now appears to begin as soon as September 2011 as universities prepare for an alternate approach based on five ... State board members on listening tour say educators misunderstand college prep curriculum. The school board last week adopted a grading system based on a scale used by St. Vincent College that will award an A to students scoring 90 or above in a class. The current scale requires a minimum of 93 percent to achieve an A, 86 to 92 percent for a B, 78 to 85 percent for a C, and 70 to 77 percent for a D. James Cuddy Jr., managing editor of the Tribune-Review, was chosen as a board member of the Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors at the organization's annual convention on Friday in State College. Nashville is one of seven urban districts chosen by The College Board to design and test a college and career guidance plan that begins in kindergarten. Costs at state universities keep rising - even as they collect more than they expected. * * * advertisment * * * It's long been my belief that you could never be too cynical about our leaders on Wall Street or in Washington. But given the recent revelations over insider dealing at the Galleon Group and now David Sokol's greasy wheeling and dealing with Lubrizol, it's clear, that I was way too forgiving. You can never be too cynical about any leader in America. Even Warren Buffett. Did Buffett break the law in allowing Sokol, his employee, to front-run Berkshire Hathaway's proposed acquisition of Lubrizol? Almost certainly not. But has Buffett conducted himself in line with his own high ethical standards, in a way befitting America's most revered corporate leader? Fixing the much-maligned current Medicare reimbursement formula would be very expensive. In what may be one of the largest digital security breaches in United States history, millions of customer email addresses have been exposed as a result of a breach at Epsilon. JEFFERSON CITY - Caitlyn Lance stood at home plate, taking a few practice swings as the enormity of her situation hit her. Carson-Newman College was down by two runs to No. 5-seed Wingate in the top of the final inning. With two outs on the board, the entire Lady Eagles softball season was on Lance's shoulders. The Colts drafted Boston College standout Anthony Castonzo.  Castonzo was projected a possible Colt, but in many mock drafts, Castonzo was no longer on the board.  There was a large amount of quarterbacks chosen (and some thought they were reaching) in the first round.  Tennessee took Jake Locker from Washington and Jacksonville took Blaine Gabbert out of Iowa, these decisions ...
