BANKSY has designed a poster to raise funds for the legal costs of alleged rioters arrested during a protest against a new Tesco store in Bristol. FAMOUS graffiti artist surprises critics with his latest work on a London wall, which they argue is an attempt to regain his gritty image. The protest against Tesco is part of a trenchant anti-corporate resistance movement that has developed in this part of Bristol As you come into Stokes Croft you are met by one of the many Banksy murals in the south west city of Bristol. It's the famous Mild Mild West piece, which features a teddy bear throwing a Molotov cocktail at riot police. After the disturbances of last Thursday night the tongue-in-cheek artwork has taken on a more prophetic quality. Those involved in the No Tesco in Stokes Croft campaign also predicted the trouble. They even warned the council that its backing of the Tesco store was not something which would be accepted quietly like it has been each time the supermarket giant established its 31 other stores in the city. It's become clear that in the self-styled People's Republic of Stokes Croft things are different. Filed under: News, Holy Hell, New Releases Roger Kisby, Getty Images The strange folks of Akron/Family are planning on releasing a bizarre, not quite self-destructive, special double-vinyl collection for Record Store Day (April 16) this year. The release is a compilation of blown-out, warped versions of songs from their latest release 'S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT.' The thing is, fans who tried to download that album before its release date, via an Internet leak, may have wound up with one of several prank versions of the album, containing twisted, blown-out remixes of the original tracks. The band intentionally flooded the market with warped versions, initially as a tool to create interference and difficulties for anyone trying to illegally download the album for free. But, unintentionally, it raised the question, "Which versions are the definitive ones?" After all, the Hartford Advocate named 'Shinju TNT' the "Album of the Week." But, without even knowing it, they were actually talking about one of the counterfeits. "The idea of 'bombing' the Internet was inspired more by the art-pranking of Banksy," Akron/Family's Miles Seaton tells Spinner. "Or the Napster bombs of the ECC (Evolution Control Committee), who ... ## **Encylopedia Pictura** Encyclopedia Pictura are a trio of film-makers responsible for Knife by Grizzly Bear, one of the most brain-melting music videos of the past decade. That film's bizarre ecological theme is common throughout their work, which can be viewed here, alongside behind-the-scenes footage illustrating their craft. See Bjork's Wanderlust video, numerous short films of their own and, in the works, a children's movie about "about a gang of kids who hack, scout, make, farm, and build their way out of a catastrophic situation in Pennsylvania 2023". The augmented reality that features in their films also extends to the trio's lives and an eco-community they've set up called Trout Gulch Farm. ## **Street Art View** Google Street View finds another use here as an open air gallery. Zoom in from a map of the world and you can locate a selection of murals, graphics and creative graffiti all captured by Google's cameras. Rather brilliantly, once you zoom down to a specific site Flickr links overlay photographs, so if the piece you're looking at has faded over time you can see what it looked like in its original state. This is particularly useful when searching for Banksy's London ... ARTIST dubbed "Andy Wall-hole" wows the street art world by using explosives and drills to leave large images on walls.
