TWILIGHT inspired Jacob and Isabella the most popular names for babies in 2010 while Elvis has left the list for the first time in 56 years. Vampires aren't really interested in snuggling with their evening meals... They both found fame playing vampires. Now, Cam Gigandet ("Twilight") and Stephen Moyer (HBO's "True Blood") are on the opposite side of the fence fighting bloodsuckers in Columbia Pictures' new supernatural action-thriller "Priest." Based on the popular graphic novel series written by Min-Woo Hyung, "Priest" is set in an alternate world -- one ravaged by [...] The rumor that I never go to parties is vastly exaggerated. I'm at a party here, a party there, and pretty soon the year is complete. Just last weekend I was at a party (ribs, salad, Diet 7-Up) and fell into... This summer's Everything But the Kitchen Sink award goes to _Priest_, judging from the film's new trailer. Star Paul Bettany borrows robes from his monk character in _The Da Vinci Code_ to take on a cowboy-hatted villain dressed almost identically to Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name in the new clip. Hawaiian-born actress Maggie Q plays the role of the Priestess in upcoming supernatural thriller. When Priest (Paul Bettany) defies the orders of the Clergy by leaving the city on a perilous quest to save his niece from a murderous pack of vampires, the Council of Monsignors dispatches a team of warrior priests to bring him [...] Frederick Kaufman's piece for Foreign Policy examines how the Goldman Sachs Commodity Index (GSCI) is responsible for the increase in food prices. [T]he boom in new speculative opportunities in global grain, edible oil, and livestock markets has created a vicious cycle. The more the price of food commodities increases, the more money pours into the sector, and the higher prices rise. Indeed, from 2003 to 2008, the volume of index fund speculation increased by 1,900 percent. "What we are experiencing is a demand shock coming from a new category of participant in the commodities futures markets," hedge fund Michael Masters testified before Congress in the midst of the 2008 food crisis. The result of Wall Street's venture into grain and feed and livestock has been a shock to the global food production and delivery system. Not only does the world's food supply have to contend with constricted supply and increased demand for real grain, but investment bankers have engineered an artificial upward pull on the price of grain futures. The result: Imaginary wheat dominates the price of real wheat, as speculators (traditionally one- fifth of the market) now outnumber bona-fide hedgers four-to-one. Today, bankers and traders ... The fresh video sees Bettany and Gigandet trying to save their lives after realizing that an army of newborn vampires are attacking them. Taken in context it's a fun, immediate sugar-rush of a listen. From the fertile imagination of visionary filmmaker Scott Stewart comes a fantasy adventure set in an alternate world in which humans have been battling vampires for ages. Inspired by the Korean manga comic books, Columbia Pictures' "Priest" transports us to a dark post-apocalyptic future where a warrior priest (Paul Bettany) decides to abandon the obscurity [...] _So Easter's here, and it's time to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ! Yay! With eggs! Ya- . . . huh? I can think of no better way to piss off my former Sunday School teacher than to do so by writing up a list of Jesus' greatest video game zombie brethren! 13 in total, one for the J-man and each of his apostles. Am I going to hell for this? Probably. But at least I won't be alone, I'll have these guys and all of their victims right along with me. Oh and rules: First things first - SPECIFIC CHARACTERS! I could toss out boomers, tanks, and lickers all day, but they're just "types" o zombie. In the grand scheme, nothing too special about them or unique. Second, these are characters that have to have come back from the dead. No Characters that "beat" death by way of necromancy (looking at you Dark Priest Shaft and Chakan The Forever Man). Third, they have to have bodies, so no ghosts and/or poltergeists. Finally, no vampires, as they fall into their own classification, and will one day get their own list._ share: digg facebook twitter A missionary in the New Hebrides Islands and his wife are protected from the imminent attack of natives by hundreds of men armed with swords - visible only to the attackers. Whether the King James Version or any of the other popular translations, the Holy Bible tells of sightings that would certainly attract the attention of Scully and Mulder, not to mention the "Cigarette Smoking Man." According to Billy Graham, angels are mentioned over 300 times in the Bible. [...] Graham's primary resource is the Bible. Spiritwritings.com now lists over 60 books published since 1975 on the subject of angels and with the popularity of vampires and extraterrestrials, there seems to be no shortage of interest in the paranormal. share: digg facebook twitter The fifth volume of Buffy Season Eight is patched up from several different short stories, collated together to illustrate a world where vampires are the latest-hottest trend, all thanks to the most clueless, blondest, and shallowest vampire to have ever been undead - Harmony Kendall. Do Reality shows really show reality, and are these shows evil? I could think of several real life parallels to those not-so-fictional dilemmas, so the volume's cute sarcasm did not go unappreciated by me. After receiving enough attention from the biting incident, she sells her idea for a show to MTV (nobody really remembers what these letters stand for. it's just a popular reality channel now) and the rest is fictional history. Later on, this slayer tries to answer her calling all by herself, and sadly ends up being killed by Harmony - live on TV - and even presented as the bad-guy who attacked beloved and famous Harmony. On the third story (called "Predator and Prey") Buffy and Andrew go together on a mission to rescue a slayer from a group of other rogue slayers and also a giant spider. [...] she finally amends ... Connor Paolo and Nick Damici discover that vampires like the taste of babies in Jim Mickle's thriller. [...] Did you ever wonder how computers work? By magic? UFOs? Are vampires involved? There's lots of theories out there. Let's ask an educational video from 1990 to see if it can shed any light on this "touchy subject." The iconic Top Gun flight instructor is back in a new movie about vampires and zombies. [...] Vampires have become very trendy in the mainstream media, but why? What is it about them that so fascinates us? Contributor: Ashley Abraham Published: Apr 22, 2011 Danny Mefford in "Stake Land." R.I.P, Sarah Jane Smith. (If only The Doctor's TARDIS worked for us non-Time- Lords.) *********** Because DC is very much a company town, the Washington Post must interpret even a Twihard convention through the lens of the local obsession: ...There were absolutely lessons for the political process in this, about "Team Edward, Team Jacob, and inability [...] Check out our exclusive deal at Jonesy Stationery!
