As expected today, Apple updated their iMac line of all-in-one computers. Here's the release: CUPERTINO, California--May 3, 2011--Apple® today updated its signature all-in- one iMac® with next generation quad-core processors, powerful new graphics, groundbreaking high-speed Thunderbolt I/O technology and a new FaceTime® HD camera. Starting at $1,199, the new iMac is up to 70 percent faster and new graphics deliver up to three times the performance of the previous generation.* "Our customers love the iMac's aluminum enclosure, gorgeous display and all- in-one design," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "With next generation quad-core processors, powerful new graphics, Thunderbolt technology and a FaceTime HD camera, we've made the world's best desktop even better." The new iMac features quad-core Intel Core i5 processors with an option for customers to choose Core i7 processors up to 3.4 GHz. These next generation processors feature an integrated memory controller for an amazingly responsive experience and a powerful new media engine for high-performance video encoding and decoding. Apple's new iMacs features quad-core processors across the board On Tuesday, Apple announced a new generation of iMac models, running at speeds up to 3.4GHz and powered by the next generation of Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The new iMacs have arrived. The Apple store is back online after being down this morning in anticipation of the updated desktop systems sporting the first Thunderbolt port on a desktop, AMD Radeon HD graphics and an HD FaceTime camera. After a brief period of downtime Tuesday, the Apple Store has returned with brand new iMacs, confirming recent rumors about an imminent refres… Apple as expected today unveiled its 2011 iMac. The new models are all based on the Sandy Bridge architecture and are the first to go entirely quad-core, starting with the 2.5GHz Core i5 and scaling up to the 3.4GHz Core i7. Each now uses the same 10Gbps Thunderbolt technology from the MacBook Pro that also doubles as a mini DisplayPort output; two are on the back.... Apple Announces New iMac With Next Generation Quad-Core Processors, Graphics Apple validated some expectations early Tuesday morning by taking down the online Apple Store. The shop should go back up shortly after 8:30AM Eastern and is expected primarily to focus on newly upgraded iMacs. Most expectations have them leaping to Sandy Bridge (2011 Core) processors, Thunderbolt in place of DisplayPort, and newer AMD or NVIDIA graphics.... Rumor has it we'll see refreshed Apple iMacs as soon as Tuesday, May 3, including new Intel Sandy Bridge processors and new Thunderbolt ports. Even if the iMac isn't something you're terribly interested in, this is a release that all Apple-watchers should be excited about. Verizon Wireless has announced that it will issue a software update for the HTC ThunderBolt on May 3rd. The update will enhance the connectivity to Verizon's 3G network – when a 4G signal isn't available, of course – and will also fix some email and SMS bugs so that messages are stored properly in your inbox. Verizon also said that, after the patch is applied, the Backup Assistant application will display properly in the applications menu. Other fixes include faster loading of GPS updates and stability improvements for Facebook, KAYAK, Yahoo! Mail, My Verizon, and others. Unfortunately, the update doesn't appear to offer any improvements to the ThunderBolt's notoriously bad battery life.
